The Role Of Food In the Prevention Of Cancer
Foods To Avoid
Now that you’re well-versed in foods to choose, it may also be helpful to know which types of food to avoid. Following the principle that the best diet for cancer prevention or to fight cancer is high in fibre, rich in nutrients, and low in fat and calories, health experts recommend cutting down on or eliminating vice foods like red meat, processed carbohydrates, refined sugar and alcohol (except red wine in reasonable quantities). Hydrogenated oil (like margarine) and sodium, or processed foods that contain high levels of these ingredients should also be avoided.
Foods To Add To Your Diet
The last food on the list really isn?t a food at all, but a beverage. The drink is green tea, and the plant from which it comes is known as Cameilla sinensis. Green tea, like curcumin, has a multitude of research supporting it?s use in both cancer prevention and cancer therapy. Green tea?s amazing anti-cancer properties are mainly due to it?s high content of polyphenols such as EGCG. EGCG, otherwise known as epigallocatechin-3-gallate, is a remarkable substance which has anti-oxidant properties, helps the body to remove toxins, assists in regulating cancer cell growth, inhibits tumors from growing new blood vessels via a process known as angiogenesis, inhibits cancer promoting inflammation, AND has demonstrated the ability to kill cancer cells while leaving normal cells alone. Green tea is truly a great cancer fighter.

For the purposes of this article, this treatment will be categorized as building the immunity system, but in fact it does a lot more than that. Many fruits and vegetables have nutrients that kill cancer cells and/or stop the spread of cancer. It is key to understand that almost every cancer diet is a modification of the raw food diet! Even the laetrile diet is basically a raw food diet, modified for foods that contain laetrile.

Definition: While the term “raw food” means food eaten without cooking, in the context of a cancer diet, a “raw food” diet is a vegan type of diet, where the vast majority of fruits and vegetables that are consumed are known to kill cancer cells, directly or indirectly. In other words, the phrase “raw food” on this web page does not mean a random selection of uncooked vegetables and fruits, but a very selective subset of vegetables and fruits specifically selected to treat cancer.

Either soluble or insoluble, dietary fiber (roughage) is not digested in the stomach or small intestine, as most other nutrients are. Some components of dietary fibber are broken down and digested in the large intestine (colon). Foods high in fiber such as grains, cereals, apples, and whole wheat are thought help protect against cancer of the colon.

Bioengineered foods are made by adding genes from other plants or organisms to make a plant more resistant to pests and slow spoilage. Some genes improve flavor, nutrient composition, or make the food easier to transport. In theory, these added genes might create substances that could cause harmful reactions among sensitized or allergic individuals. But there is no evidence at this time that the substances found in bioengineered foods now on the market are harmful or that they would either increase or decrease cancer risk because of the added genes.
