Found A New Barrier Ring

I have just completed my journey from wintering in the Gulf coast of Florida back to Southern Ontario in Canada. Yes, I am a Snowbird.

Here is a tidbit I come across.

As I have stated in the past, I developed a Parastomal Hernia soon after my surgery in 2001. For some reason my hernia decided to get larger this past winter. I feel fine so it is not causing any harm that I am aware of. I go to the surgeon in a month and I will discuss the increase in size with him at that time.

Since I have an innie stoma, made worse by the size of the Parastomal Hernia, I cannot wear convex pouches. They dig into my abdomen and eventually cause pressure sores. There is nothing worse than fighting pressure sores. This forces me to wear a flat Ostomy pouch. In the past, I have used Hollister Adapt Barrier Rings two inches in diameter. These barrier rings have worked fairly well allowing me to wear a pouch for three days.

When I got home, I needed some Barrier Rings. My supplier was out of the 2 inch rings. All that was available was the 4 inch rings. Knowing that I had to have some type of ring, I purchased the 4 inch rings. I have only used one so far but I am on my 5th day with this ring. I find it more comfortable than the two inch and I am certainly getting a much longer wearing time. I am going to leave it on, for a maximum of 7 days, just to see how long this 4 inch barrier ring will last. Technically, I guess it should last double the time of a two inch ring.

I will certainly go back to changing the pouch every three to four days as seven days is far too long. The chance of infection is too great to wear the same pouch for 6 to 7 days.
