My Bladder Cancer - Symptoms

I am NOT a medical person.

I can only tell you how I knew something was wrong and that I needed medical help. Your symptoms might have been quite different. Tell me about them and I will publish them.

For a couple of years prior to my diagnosis, I had to get up more and more during the night to urinate. For me, this was a pain. One morning in July 2000, I got up and urinated. I was shocked when I saw that I was urinating what appeared to be pure blood. I was bleeding internally. During that day, on urinating, my urine was definitely pink indicating to me that I was still bleeding. I was scared. At around three o’clock in the afternoon, I phoned my Family Physician for an appointment. When I told the secretary what was going on, she made an appointment for me the next day. My Family physician did not really examine me. Just listened and asked questions. Luckily, for me, he immediately told me that my problem was outside his expertise and immediately made an appointment for me with an Urologist. I saw the Urologist later the same week. Within days, I had an appointment for a urethral and bladder scope. That procedure gave me the shocking news, CANCER.

I did not have any discomfort in any, shape or form, prior to my bleeding. Absolutely no indication was evident that something was going wrong inside my body. One incident about a year or two prior may or may not have been sign that something was starting to go wrong. During protected sex, I observed some blood, just a pink hue, in my ejaculate. This only occurred once. I did mention this to my Family Physician during my next visit. He felt that I had probably broken a small capillary. Since it was a one-time deal, we both forgot about it.
