I based a post, January 23rd, on an Email sent to me by a lady who was concern about her husband when blood was found in his urine. He was scheduled for a Cystoscope.
I have received an update on the Cystoscope.
Original Email
My husband has been referred to a urologist for “suspicious cells” in his urine. We are scheduled for a cystcopy in 2 weeks. Please tell me what “suspicious cells” indicate.
With this lady’s permission, I developed the post ‘To An Email Writer’.
This is her reply after I sent her a copy of the post for approval
I am not offended at all as the points is very valid. Thank you for posting. I have taken what you have said into consideration and I am very optimistic in the sense that I will be able to ask the questions needed to determine the diagnosis. I requested the lab report and the Dr. notes and to my surprise I see the diagnosis from the lab as “Microscopic Hematuria” and the Dr’s note says..”maybe see a urologist” so I’m glad that we are pushing to see the urologist and having the cytoscope done. My research has yielded that hematuria can be a number of things including cancer but we won’t know until we see the results. Thank you for your blog. I’ve read your blog and feel stronger today about facing whatever diagnosis comes our way. Thank you for sharing.
Here is her Email, I received the other day, with the good news.
Neil,
I wanted to write you back and let you know the outcome of my husbands cytoscopy and pathology reports–After seeing a urologist it was determined that there is nothing in the bladder at this time that indicates cancer..not even insitu..and his hematuria was very small in the latest urine sample. The dr did a culture and sent it to another pathologist and they results that came back were normal–no cancer cells. I find it interesting that many test later..we went on the basis of one pathologists interpretation..although I would much rather err on the side of suspicious…to rule out cancer. Thanks for your blog it really helped me formulate my questions to the Urologist.
Thanks again,
Jackie
The peace of mind that this couple must now have is fantastic. They did the right thing. They had this investigated.
The point I am trying to make here is that not all blood found in the urine indicates Cancer. There are many other medical reasons why blood suddenly appears in the urine.
But
These Emails stress the importance of seeing your Doctor immediately when blood is found. Since cancer is one of the reasons why blood suddenly appears, it must be investigated IMMEDIATELY.
Life is too short to screw around.
